Palestinian journalist Hussam Al-Dajany, who also lectures at Gaza Open University, discussed Hamas’ acceptance of Bitcoin donations in a January 30, 2019 interview on Al-Aqsa TV (Hamas/Gaza). Al-Dajany highlighted Bitcoin as a secure and untraceable method for those hesitant or unable to openly support the Palestinian resistance. He emphasized that financial contributions are crucial for the resistance, detailing the significant costs involved in paying salaries, manufacturing rockets, smuggling weapons, digging tunnels, and building drones.
Al-Dajany also noted that despite Iran’s support for the Palestinian resistance, international sanctions might impede sufficient fund transfers to Hamas. Therefore, Bitcoin is being promoted as an alternative means for individuals to indirectly support what he referred to as the “liberation of the Al-Aqsa Mosque.” This statement reflects an evolving approach in funding methods for Hamas, which is designated as a terrorist organization by several countries, including the United States and the European Union
